‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ already dominating weekend box office

X-Men: Days of Future Past is already dominating the weekend box office and the late night showings of the film do not start until 10 p.m. this evening.

Variety reported that movie ticket pre-sales are helping the film to move closer to its expected goal of breaking the $100 million box office goal for the comic book film.

Online movie ticket website Fandango reported that the film is the strongest selling ticket wise for the X-Men franchise. These early numbers far surpass that of 2006's X-Men: The Last Stand. The current online movie ticket sales are more than 90 percent of the weekend's ticket sales so far.

Sales have also been going strong on MovieTickets.com. The site is reporting that Days of Future Past already has 50 percent of all tickets sold domestically in the last 24 hours.

X-Men: Days of Future Past has become the second-most expensive film ever produced by 20th Century Fox. The comic book movie has a reported budget of around $225 million.

The film will be released nationwide on Friday.
