The Virgin Galactic space flight that actor Leonardo DiCaprio will have one more passenger. A seat on the flight has been a favorite treat for DiCaprio to auction off at charity events and another seat has gone for $1 million.
DiCaprio put the seat up for auction at the annual star-studded amFAR charity auction in Cannes to raise funds for the international AIDS research foundation. According to The New York Daily News, the seat went for $1 million to an anonymous bidder.
At the same event last year, one bidder spent $1.5 million to get a seat on the same flight. Another ticket also went for $2.3 million.
The event was hosted by Sharon Stone and raised $38 million for amFAR. According to The Associated Press, other items that went for sale include Carla Bruni’s Bulgari serpentine necklace, which went for $545,000; and a collection of Chanel, Christian Dior, Louis Vuitton and Dolce & Gabbana gowns that went for $4.8 million.
It’s still not clear when Virgin Galactic’s SpaceshipTwo will finally lift off with passengers, but Virgin mogul Richard Branson is hoping to leave the surface next year. He better make sure it is safe, especially with the amount of star power that will be aboard.
