China has made the decision to prohibit the use of Windows 8 on all government computers in order to maintain high security.
The decision has been a great disappointment to Microsoft, since the company typically brings in a lot of revenue from their government, and has had some issues with China in the past.
According to CNET, Microsoft claims that China is the primary culprit when it comes to pirating their software, which harms the company. As a result, Microsoft has attempted to convince the Chinese government to intervene, but so far China has yet to act.
The Central Government Procurement Center stated last week on their website that the ban was also made to promote the use of items that save energy, Reuters noted.
The Chinese government currently uses Microsoft XP, which Microsoft has recently ended support of in hopes that companies and people would purchase their newer software instead of continuing use of the old one.
China did not announce what software it will use instead of Windows 8.
