Community College of Philadelphia lockdown lifted, gunman in custody

Police said that they have in custody the suspect who allegedly pulled a gun on a classmate Wednesday at the Community College of Philadelphia.

NBC10 noted that witnesses in the chemistry class said that the male student stormed into the room and threatened another student with a gun. Authorities believe the argument may have been over a girl.

The incident happened at around 12 noon and caused panic among the other students.

Homeland Security and SWAT officers arrived on the scene and placed the building on lockdown. Three other schools in the area were also placed on lockdown as a precaution.

The buildings were later evacuated and the college closed for the remainder of the day.

CBSPhilly reported that the suspect, identified as Ryan Fitch, was located at his apartment and taken into custody around 1:30 p.m.

Some students said they were on edge because of the recent shootings at a college campus in California.

Investigators said that in this case no shots were fired and no one was injured.
