'Eastbound & Down' star Danny McBride returning to HBO for 'Vice Principals'

Actor Danny McBride is keeping his talents with HBO. The network, which aired his Eastbound & Down for four seasons, has just greenlit a new series called Vice Principals.

The series was announced by HBO on Wednesday. It is so confident in the project that it has ordered 18 episodes right off the bat.

Vice Principals was created by McBride and Jody Hill, who also created Eastbound & Down. David Gordon Green is executive producing with McBride, Hill and stephanie Lang. The plot centers on several high schools and their vice principals, including one played by McBride.

“Danny McBride and Jody Hill have created a smart, rowdy and unpredictable style of comedy that we can’t get enough of,” Michael Lombardo, president, HBO Programming, said in a press release. “The idea of them setting their minds on high school was irresistible.”

McBride added, “HBO was the perfect creative family for Eastbound & Down, and we’re excited to pack up the van for the next adventure.”

Eastbound & Down wrapped up its four-season run last year. McBride is also known for his roles in films like Pineapple Express, Tropic Thunder, This Is The End and Due Date.
