The premiere of HBO's AIDS film The Normal Heart on Sunday night managed decent enough numbers in the TV ratings, with the network happy with the result.
Airing instead of Game of Thrones and other normal Sunday fare, the Mark Ruffalo-led drama pulled in 1.4 million viewers for the first telecast, reports TheWrap. The second showing managed to draw an additional 434,000 viewers.
Those numbers aren't bad and could improve once HBO adds in Go numbers, but they are down from last year's Memorial Day weekend, when Behind the Candelabra aired to 2.4 million viewers.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the drama based off the 1985 play from Larry Kramer was the fifth-most watched HBO Films original. Kramer adapted the play for the premium cable network.
The Normal Heart starred Ruffalo, Julia Roberts, Matt Bomer, Jim Parsons and Taylor Kitsch and was directed by Ryan Murphy. The drama follows Ruffalo's character during the AIDS epidemic in New York City.
