Kim Kardashian, Kanye West Florence wedding draws complaint from Medici descendant

A descendant of the Medici family, which built the fortress where Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are set to get married this weekend, is complaining about the star-studded affair. He fears that the event and others like it may damage the status of the fort and the city’s buildings, which was designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

Prince Ottaviano de'Medici di Toscana told The Telegraph that he is angered by the city government loaning out the building to celebrities and elites for parties.

“The city is renting out our palazzi for small change to be used as dance halls,” he explained to the site. “Events like this represent a danger to the cultural integrity and historical authenticity of the city, which is protected, and could mean a possible loss of UNESCO status or being placed on UNESCO's danger list.”

The prince, an insurance broker and the member of a Florence conservation society, said that some are “disgusted” by the wedding.

Forte di Belvedere was once a garrison for troops and used to show off the Medicis’ wealth and power in the city. This will be the first time that it is used to host a wedding. However, the city council has allowed several other events to be hosted there, the prince claimed.

Kardashian and West are paying 300,000 euros to have their wedding there and the council said that the money will go to cultural programs.

According to E! News, several friends and family linked to the Kardashian family have shared photos on social media of them arriving in Italy for the wedding. Bruce Jenner and Scott Disick just arrived as have Kardashian’s friends, Monica Rose, Joe Francis and Simon Huck.
