Jurgen Klinsmann chose his roster for the World Cup and in a surprisingly move Landon Donovan did not make the cut.
Sports Illustrated reported that the coach axed the United States’ all-time leading scorer along with six others players to trim the roster to 23. The other individuals left off are Maurice Edu, Terrence Boyd, Joe Corona, Michael Parkhurst, Clarence Goodson and Brad Evans.
The absence of the high-profile fan favorite may leave some U.S. soccer fans feeling a little nervous.
According to NBC Sports, the current roster is as follows:
Goalkeepers: Brad Guzan, Tim Howard, Nick Rimando
Defenders: DeAndre Yedlin, Omar Gonzalez, Timmy Chandler, John Anthony Brooks, Matt Besler, DaMarcus Beasley, Geoff Cameron, Fabian Johnson
Midfielders: Michael Bradley, Graham Zusi, Jermaine Jones, Kyle Beckerman, Mix Diskerud, Ale Bedoya, Timmy Chandler, Brad Davis
Forwards: Chris Wondolowski, Aron Johannsson, Jozy Altidore, Clint Dempsey
The 2014 World Cup starts on June 12 in Brazil. It will be the second time since 1950 that the country has hosted the international competition.
