Mariah Carey causes World Music Awards to delay, Sharon Stone a no-show

Mariah Carey was scheduled to open the World Music Awards in Monaco on Tuesday night, but since she was late, the show had to be pushed back.

When she did finally hit the stage, she performed her new song "Meteorite" off of her new album. She also accepted the Pop Icon Award.

According to The Mirror, the singer was scheduled to release her new album Me. I Am Mariah at the Monte Carlo Sporting Club before the event but she was four hours late.

“Mariah was meant to be at the Sporting Club at 5.30pm but her album launch was put back to 9.30pm,” a producer explained. “The whole event has been delayed. It’s not great.”

A spokesperson for the World Music Awards said of the 44-year-old Grammy winner’s tardiness, "We don't know why Mariah is late, she's just being Mariah."

It’s being reported that when she did show up, she had her lighting in tow, which is “really important to her.”

Irish Independent reports that wasn’t the only snafu of the night – as the show’s host, Sharon Stone, didn’t show up and Pamela Anderson was brought in at the last minute.

When she arrived on the red carpet, Anderson said "Sharon Stone has pulled out last minute and I've just been asked to stand in, it's crazy. They've just asked me to read through the script right now, just as I arrived."
