Actor Michael Jace, who was best known for starring on FX’s The Shield, has officially been charged with the murder of his wife of 10 years, April, the prosecutor’s office said Thursday.
Jace was charged with one count of murder with a gun, reports CNN. He will be appearing in a Los Angeles courtroom later today. Spokeswoman Jane Robison told CNN Los Angeles police detectives presented the district attorney with their evidence this morning.
Police said on Tuesday that April, 40, was found dead on Monday in the couple’s home after they were called. It was later revealed that Jace, 50, called 911 himself after allegedly shooting April.
“At this moment, the motive of the murder is believed to be domestic violence,” police said in a statement.
According to TMZ, the couple’s two young sons, who were at home on Monday night, are currently staying with relatives.
There were no previous reports of domestic violence between the couple. Jace is currently being held on $1 million bail.
Jace has been working in Hollywood for 22 years, but The Shield was the biggest job of his career. He also made appearances on Southland, Burn Notice and CSI, mostly appearing in police roles.
April most recently worked as a financial aid advisor at Biola University in La Mirada, California.
