NBC nearly cut over half their line-up, according to TV By The Numbers looking at a nineteen-show roster cut down to nine renewals.
Two of the bigger stories would have to be Community and surprisingly Hannibal. Of course, the writing had been on the wall for quite some time with Community’s cancellation, especially with the back-and-forth we have seen the network give the tried-and-true fans over the last couple seasons. Hannibal, the precursor to the The Red Dragon and its more famous sequel Silence of the Lambs about how Hannibal “The Cannibal” ended up locked away in a mental institution for the criminally insane. With its extremely dark and quite often gory and graphic content, the peacock decided to give the horror drama another go-around and renewed for a third season, despite low ratings.
Other surprise cancellations included the quirky Growing Up Fisher and drama Revolution, while mainstay Law and Order: SVU continues the renewal course, as well as Chicago Fire and spin-off Chicago PD.
Of course with firings come hirings, which the network announced its Fall lineup which will include Kathryn Heigl’s return to the small screen in State of Affairs and comedies A to Z, and The Bad Judge starring Kate Walsh.
