Pacer’s Paul George diagnosed with concussion

Indiana Pacers guard Paul George was diagnosed with a concussion on Wednesday. His status for Game 3 is unknown at this time.

George suffered the concussion in the fourth quarter of Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals against the Miami Heat on Tuesday. He stole the ball from Heat guard Dwayne Wade, but couldn’t keep control and fell face-first onto the floor. After he had fell Wade struck him in the back of his head with his left knee and scrapped his right leg as he fell to the floor, according to the Associated Press. George denied his symptoms until after the game, but said that he “blacked out” on that play.

''George exhibited no symptoms of a concussion and, in response to questions from the Pacers' medical staff, he denied dizziness, nausea, and issues with his vision,'' the Pacers said in a news release. ''He was also active and aware of his surroundings. As a result, the Indiana medical staff did not suspect a concussion.''

If George had admitted his symptoms during the game, then he wouldn’t have been allowed to continue playing. When he can return will be governed by the NBA’s concussion protocol. A player can’t resume any basketball activities until he is concussion free, according to USA Today.

"The Indiana Pacers medical team followed the NBA concussion protocol and there was no indication of concussion during the game," Jeffery Kutcher, director of the NBA’s concussion program said in a news release. "This case illustrates that concussion evaluation is an ongoing process and manifestations of the injury may not always present immediately."

George finished Game 2 with 14 points, six assists, and five rebounds. Game 3 of the series, which is tied at one game apiece, is Saturday night.
