'Parks and Recreation' with Amy Poehler to end after seven seasons

Parks and Recreation is currently NBC’s longest running show and it was confirmed early this week that the show’s seventh season will be the final season of the show. The show focuses on the Park’s Department in the town of Pawnee, Indiana.

It has been an interesting run for the show, considering that season six faced cancellation at one point. In October the show was put on a hiatus, which many feared could be an early end to the show that has had a loyal following since its debut according to The Huffington Post. Mike Shur is the head show runner and has made the comment that he knew the ending was in sight for the show but is happy they can have this final season to wrap up everything going on for these beloved characters.

It has not yet been announced how many episodes will air for the final season, but it is likely that 13 episodes will be the final count. CBS News reports that the ending of the show has been being prepared since last season when the show changed the time period by skipping ahead a few years and when cast members Rashida Jones and Rob Lowe left the show during season six.

The new season has yet to have a release date but it has been confirmed that the show has been added to the midseason lineup. It is sad to know that Parks and Recreation will be ending soon, but we get one more season to see Leslie Knope and her Parks Department improve the town of Pawnee.
