Female high school students in Utah were upset to discover their yearbook photos were altered for additional skin coverage prior to publication without their knowledge.
The students of Wasatch High School were initially concerned about the district's decision to alter the photos without the student consent. However, once the students realized each photo was not altered with the same standard or consistency, the young women became more bewildered, according to Fox 13.
“I feel like they put names in a hat and pick and choose who,” Rachel Russel, sophomore at Wasatch, told Fox 13. “There were plenty of girls that were wearing thicker tank tops and half of them got edited and half of them didn't.”
According to WREG Memphis, though two female students wore seemingly identical tops in their yearbook photo, only one top had sleeve.
Wasatch school officials stated that students at the high school are aware of the school dress code and that a sign was posted that pictures may be edited, stated Fox 13.
“We only apologize in the sense that we want to be more consistent with what we're trying to do, stated Terry E. Shoemaker, superintendent of Wasatch County School District. “In that sense we can help kids better prepare for their future by knowing how to dress appropriately for things.”
