Suki Waterhouse, Jonny Weston joining 'Divergent' sequel 'Insurgent' as filming starts

Two new faces will be appearing in Insurgent, Lionsgate’s sequel to the Shailene Woodley hit Divergent. British model Suki Waterhouse and Jonny Weston are joining the project, which has begun filming this week.

Waterhouse will play Marlene, who becomes a friend of Woodley’s Tris character in the Veronica Roth novel, notes Reality TV World. This is easily Waterhouse’s biggest role to date, having only a few acting credits to her name. She did appear in the 2012 film Pusher.

Weston’s casting was first reported by Variety, which notes that he is still in talks with the studio. The actor recently appeared in Taken 3.

Divergent has started production in Atlanta. Variety reports that Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer is hoping the film makes at least $350 million worldwide, which would beat Divergent’s $275 million total. The hope is that as the series continues, each film will make more, as has been the case with The Hunger Games films.

Insurgent opens on March 20. Roth’s Allegiant is being split into two films, which will be released on March 18, 2016, and March 24, 2017, respectively.

Miles Teller and Jai Courtney also starred in Divergent and will be back. Octavia Spencer is also joining the cast for Insurgent.
