Undoubtedly one of the best and hottest new shows on TV this year was HBO's True Detective.
An anthology series starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, the show is in the unique position where it hits the reset button every season. Therefore, next season will not only feature a new set of characters in a new location, but new actors as well. This availability certainly leaves showrunner/writer Nic Pizzolatto a lot of availability, and he appears to be taking full potential of his options.
When Pizzolatto dropped by the To the Best of Our Knowledge podcast, he revealed that for the new season, instead of two, "right now, we're working with three leads."
Additionally, Pizzolatto revealed that this upcoming season will be located in California, but not L.A. Instead, the show will be centered in some of the lesser known venues of the state. The writer explained that he is going to be exploring "a certain psychosphere ambiance of the place, much like we did with season one."
"The characters are all new, but I am deeply in love with all of them," the showrunner continued. "We have the entire season broken out, and I have a couple of scripts, and we’ll probably start casting within the coming month."
This comes only after a couple days after rumors began being spun that actress Jessica Chastain was to be cast in this season, before HBO and her agent shut these rumors down.
Additionally, fans of Marty and Rust from season one should not be too disappointed to have to say goodbye, as Pizzolatto has said in the past that he is considering continuing their stories in book form.
