Falcons' Sean Weatherspoon out for season

Atlanta Falcons linebacker Sean Weatherspoon will be out for the season after rupturing his Achilles tendon during a workout.

The Falcons released the news on their website Atlantafalcons.com yesterday.

“During Sean’s run today with our medical staff, he suffered an injury,” head coach Mike Smith said. “We sent Sean to the doctor for some additional testing and evaluation and unfortunately the results showed that he ruptured his Achilles tendon. Sean had been working extremely hard to get back on the field, but regrettably he will miss the entire 2014 season. He will have a procedure done in the near future and we expect him to make a full recovery.

Weatherspoon has missed 12 games in the past two seasons. In 2012, he missed three games with a foot injury, while last year he suffered another foot injury that cost him nine games. He has only made through a full season once since he was drafted in 2010, according to CBS Sports.

NFL players have made quick recoveries from an Achilles injury. San Francisco’s Michael Crabtree made it back in just over six months, and Baltimore’s Terrell Suggs returned in just over five months, according to Yahoo Sports.
