Jason Momoa will join 'Justice League' as Aquaman (Report)

After almost a year of rumors regarding Jason Momoa and the DC Cinematic Universe, a report claims that he will in fact don the orange and green tights in Justice League as Aquaman.

Since late last year, rumors have been swirling about Warner Brother’s desire for Jason Momoa to join the superhero craze under the DC umbrella. The first report to lose the pretense of rumor comes by way of HitFix.

The character has a reputation for lame abilities and generally being the butt of many fish-related jokes. Momoa, known for his roles as Khal Drogo on Game of Thrones and Conan the Barbarian, would be a surprise to many as the seahorse-riding superhero, but fans of the comics know that Aquman is usually depicted with more of a violent edge. It would seem Momoa’s casting is deliberate in this sense. Director Zack Snyder wants to upset the stereotype afflicted by general audiences by placing the physically imposing, half-Hawaiian Momoa in the role of Arthur Curry (who, in the source material, has blonde hair and blue eyes).

Snyder seems to be drawing the Justice League lineup from DC Comic’s “New 52” relaunch, which consists of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Cyborg, Aquaman, The Flash, and Green Lantern. We already have the Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and Cyborg officially announced by WB, and a Green Lantern/ Flash film was included in the leaked roster of DC films in production. Aquaman, then, is the final piece of the team. All of these characters are rumored to have cameos in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice (which would make sense, given the title).

Aquaman will hopefully have an appearance in Dawn of Justice, which is slated for release on the 6th of May, 2016.
