Johnny Manziel signs rookie contract with Browns

Former Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Johnny Manziel has signed his rookie contract with the Cleveland Browns.

Manziel, the 22nd pick, was the Browns second selection of the 2014 NFL draft after the team selected cornerback Justin Gilbert out of Texas Christian University eighth overall, according to the Browns.

Cleveland.com reports that his contract is for four years and it is worth $8.25 million with $6.7 million guaranteed.

Even with the addition of Manziel the Browns insist that Brian Hoyer, the third string starter from last year, will start the season as the top quarterback, but it is possible that Manziel could become number one at some point this season, as head coach Mike Pettine told Cleveland.com last week.

“I think that [general manager Ray Farmer] made that comment, (it was) just because of the circumstances, that Brian had been here for those seven, eight weeks, before the draft even started,” Pettine said. “That was essentially a head start and I don’t think it’s insurmountable. Brian is securely ahead of him right now, but we will compete and we will decide.”

Manziel is known just as much for his off the field antics as he is for his on field the field play. He is known to hangout with celebrities like Drake and Lebron James and is constantly in the headlines for his life decisions.

While Manziel was at Texas A&M University, he led the team to a 20-6 record and won the Heisman trophy as a freshman, becoming the first to do so.
