In order to celebrate Prince and his hit album Purple Rain, which came out thirty years ago this Wednesday, congressmen took to social media to show their appreciation for this momentous musical occasion.
To celebrate Prince and his famous album, Minnesota Representative Keith Ellison, posted a Vine of himself covering the song “Purple Rain” to Twitter, saying that he “Can’t believe it’s been thirty years since #Purple Rain.”
In response to Ellison’s tweet, New York Representative Joe Crowley posted his own cover of a Prince song, although not “Purple Rain,” saying in his Tweet, “All due respect to #purplerain, Keith Ellison, I’m partial to #raspberryberet.”
Prince’s Purple Rain is considered the 76th greatest album ever according to Rolling Stone’s list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. Other albums on the list include AC/DC’s Back in Black and Paul Simon’s Graceland.
