It was revealed that Once Upon a Time would be casting a new Elsa, Anna and Kristoff. While Elsa was brought back in the season three finale, it is unclear how they will all fit into the Once world.
According to Sciencefiction.com, Elsa is being cast as a “late-20s/early-30s beauty.” Anna is being cast as her “slightly younger sister” and Kristoff will start his time on Once just after “adjusting to life at the castle.” While those three have been announced, there is no word on whether or not Sven or Olaf will be making their journey into Storybrook.
As great as it would be to have Idina Menzel, Kristen Bell and Jonathan Groff return as the live action version of their characters, pretend casting would be no fun if they did that. And while Anna and Kristoff are both important characters, Elsa is literally the queen. Casting Elsa is obviously the most important because she traveled from the past to the future and that will have large repercussions.
Here are the top 10 women to play Elsa in Once Upon a Time. If your pick didn’t make the list, leave a comment on who you think the next Elsa should be.
[new page=Benson]
10. Ashley Benson
Where you know her: She plays Hanna in ABC Family’s Pretty Little Liars and was in the film, Spring Breakers.
Why she’d be a great Elsa: She is young enough to look the part. Her face is recognizable and her role on Pretty Little Liars, proves that she can play a brave, strong character.
Why she wouldn’t be a great Elsa: She is already on Pretty Little Liars and having a recurring role on another television show that might limit her time on each show, negatively affecting Pretty Little Liars and Once Upon a Time.
[new page=Agron]
9. Dianna Agron
Where you know her: She played Quinn on FOX’s Glee.
Why she’d be a great Elsa: If they choose to have a musical Elsa (which is doubtful), Agron does have the pipes to do it. Like the other women on the list, Agron has delicate features that resemble Elsa’s. With Glee ending, it would be a great transition.
Why she wouldn’t be a great Elsa: Since leaving Glee, Agron has taken more mature roles in films such as The Family. Taking a step into a fairytale character may halt her career. However, Frozen is based on The Snow Queen in which that Elsa is evil so it might be dark enough.
[new page=Seyfried]
8. Amanda Seyfried
Where you know her: She was in the film A Million Ways to Die in the West and Lovelace.
Why she’d be a great Elsa: Seyfried has a wide range of roles. Between Cosette in Les Misérables and Linda Lovelace in Lovelace, she can play any role that is thrown at her.
Why she wouldn’t be a great Elsa: Seyfried is busy in movies these days. It would be quite a step back to go from being in movies to being on TV. Plus, she’s been cast in the film Pan and it may ruin her reputation in that film if she is another fairytale character on TV.
[new page=Whitely]
7. Rosie Huntington Whiteley
Where you know her: She was in Transformers: Dark of the Moon and is a Victoria Secrets model.
Why she’d be a great Elsa: She would be new. Since she’s only been in one film, no one would tie her to any role. IT would be one of her first TV shows, except for those Victoria Secret commercials.
Why she wouldn’t be a great Elsa: It would be a bit jarring to see her portray Elsa for one minute and then see her in a bra the next.
[new page=Tisdale]
6. Ashley Tisdale
Where you know her: She played Sharpay in the High School Musical trilogy.
Why she’d be a great Elsa: She got her start with the Disney and has been known for sweet Disney roles. If Elsa were innocent, she’d be great for that. In High School Musical, she was the villain so she could play both sides of a Disney character.
Why she wouldn’t be a great Elsa: She hasn’t been in much recently and she doesn’t look like Elsa.
[new page=Paxton]
5. Sara Paxton
Where you know her: She has been in the films such as Return to Halloweentown and The Last House on the Left.
Why she’d be a great Elsa: She looks the part and has a voice that is almost as sweet as Idina Menzel’s.
Why she wouldn’t be a great Elsa: She has been cast on the FOX show Gotham and that will take up her time as Elsa.
[new page=Fanning]
4. Dakota Fanning
Where you know her: She was a child movie star and was in the Twilight films.
Why she’d be a great Elsa: In Frozen, Elsa is good. In the origin story, Elsa is bad. Fanning has played bad in the Twilight films and innocent in all of the rest of them. She could pull off both.
Why she wouldn’t be a great Elsa: Fanning hasn’t been on a television show since 2004. While Elsa is an important character, she probably isn’t worthy of ending ten years of no television roles.
[new page=Michalka]
3. AJ Michalka
Where you know her: She and her sister Aly make up the band 78 Violet. AJ was also in the films Grace Unplugged and Super 8.
Why she’d be a great Elsa: She too started on the Disney channel. She hasn’t been in movies recently and no one would even compare her to the animated Elsa. She would be a great change.
Why she wouldn’t be a great Elsa: While no one would relate her to Elsa, that may be a bad thing. Being too unexpected could be bad.
[new page=Snow]
2. Britney Snow
Where you know her: She was in Pitch Perfect and the horror film, Would You Rather.
Why she’d be a great Elsa: She hasn’t had an active career since Pitch Perfect and only has a few movies every once and a while. She has also been on television shows.
Why she wouldn’t be a great Elsa: Because she has only been in a few roles, it is unclear whether or not she’d want to be on a TV show because of the time restraints.
[new page=Stone]
1. Emma Stone
Where you know her: She was in The Amazing Spiderman and Gangster Squad.
Why she’d be a great Elsa: The blonde Emma Stone looks exactly like Elsa. She’s a great actress and she would be a great Elsa.
Why she wouldn’t be a great Elsa: There is no reason. While Emma Stone does do movies instead of TV, it would be a great change.
