The Pretty Little Liars season five premiere is on June 10th and, because the show is full of twist and turns, there are things that need to be reviewed before watching the new season.

If you’re unfamiliar with Pretty Little Liars, it is about four girls who are being blackmailed by an anonymous character named A. At the beginning of the series, they were searching to find the person that killed their friend, Alison. However, it was revealed in season four that Alison was alive and hiding from A. Pretty Little Liars stars Lucy Hale as Aria, Ashley Benson as Hanna, Troian Bellisario as Spencer and Shay Mitchell as Emily- the four original girls being blackmailed. Sasha Pieterse plays their fake-dead BFF, Alison. The show is full of secrets and drama that include forbidden love, cheating and everything in between.

As season five prepares to begin, there are ten things that need to be remembered in order for the fifth season to make sense. The fourth season was filled with extreme drama and twists that may be hard to remember, due to the long break between seasons.

Here are the top 10 things you need to know before watching the Pretty Little Liars season five premiere. After you read the list, check out the season four finale recap and come back to TheCelebrityCafe.com for season 5 recaps.

10. Ezra was shot

On the season four finale, Ezra found the girls in New York and said that he knew who A was. Because he told A that, A began firing the gun at the girls and him. While it appeared that he had ducked the shot, he was actually shot. The cliffhanger is whether or not he will survive and whether he will be able to tell the girls who A is.

9. Ali’s mother buried her to cover for someone

In a shocking turn of events, it was revealed that Alison mother knows exactly who tried to kill Alison and even buried Alison to keep that person safe. It is odd because Mrs. DiLaurentis was talking on the phone with someone earlier in the evening and didn’t want Alison to go out that night anyway.

8. Mrs. DiLaurentis was murdered

The final scene of the fourth season finale is Mrs. DiLaurentis being dragged into a shallow grave and being buried. It is unclear whether or not she was murdered and being buried or if she was being buried alive, just like she did. It is interesting because, even though she knew who A was this entire time, A is just now killing her.

7. Ali’s brother lied about rehab

After Jason was nearly killed in an elevator accident, he went mysteriously missing. Spencer and the girls found out that Jason wasn’t missing, he was in rehab. However, the girls found out that Jason wasn’t in rehab so they have absolutely no idea where he was missing. Could he have been helping Alison? Was he crazy? Who knows.

6. Their romantic lives are as dramatic as their A-drama

Toby and Spencer. Caleb and Hanna. Hanna and Travis. Ezra and Aria. Ezra’s brother and Aria. Aria and Jake. Emily and Maya. Emily and Paige.

The coupling in Pretty Little Liars is as complicated as the A drama is. It seems that the end game for the couples are going to be: Emily and Paige, Aria and Ezra, Toby and Spencer, and Caleb and Hanna. But, at this point, Caleb and Hanna are broken up. Emily and Paige are broken up. Aria and Ezra are kind-of broken up and he’s been shot. Toby and Spencer are the only solid couple but the police think she’s a murderer.

5. The girls are in New York and both A and the police are after them

In the season four finale, the girls went to find Alison. While they originally drove to Philadelphia, they were then taken to New York to meet with Alison. (Don’t think too hard about it. This is PLL world, where facts don’t matter.) Meanwhile, the police are in Rosewood, searching for the girls. They tracked Spencer’s phone to Philly but have no idea that they’re actually in a different state.

4. People suspect Spencer is a murderer, but Ali has proof that she isn’t

The police found out about Mr. Hastings hiring a private investigator to follow Spencer and believe that her drug abuse may have lead to her violent outbursts and that she may have killed the girl in Alison’s grave. However, Alison said that Spencer couldn’t have because she was drugged and asleep in the timeline of the girl’s death. Spencer is innocent.

3. Jenna was almost killed

Jenna has been a very ambiguous character. She was blinded when the girls accidentally set off fireworks (instead of a stink bomb) in Jenna’s garage. Then, she got her sight back. In season four, she was found in the water, left for dead. It is unclear who did it to her or why they did it. It wasn’t even mentioned if it was an accident.

2. The police know that Ali is alive

Thanks to Paige, the police were given a note hinting that Alison was alive. However, when they interviewed Cece for the murder of Detective Wilden, she confirmed that Alison was alive. This created a new problem for the police. They don’t know who is in the grave and they don’t know where Alison has been.

1. We STILL don’t know who A is

Yeah, five seasons in and we’re not sure who the big A figure is. First, it was Mona. Then it was Ezra. Then it was red coat. Basically, we have no idea who A is.
