‘Big Brother 16’ Recap: 'Devin’s emotions and ‘The Bomb Squad’ still in power'

The episode begins with recapping the controversial ending to the men’s HOH competition in which Cody fell off before he hit his button, allowing Devin to capture the HOH. Devin, Caleb and Frankie celebrate Devin’s HOH win while Cody is devastated he didn’t capture HOH this week. The houseguests all go up and see Amber and Devin’s HOH room. They both read letters from their mothers and watching Amber get emotional reassures Caleb about his crush on her. Devin feels guilty for the way he has played the game so far and comes clean to Donny about why he was nominated. Donny says that his trust in Devin has been shattered, and that he will have to earn it back.

Devin then calls a house meeting where he gets extremely emotional. He talks about how he wants to play an honest game and that Caleb and Frankie’s nominations were forced upon them by Devin. Once the meeting is over, several HG, including Brittany feel that they can’t trust Devin. In the HOH room, Devin is talking with Caleb, Frankie and Derrick and Frankie tells Devin that the house feels like Devin was throwing Caleb and Frankie ‘under the bus’. Devin does not like that Brittany was misconstruing his words and now considers her a target. Frankie says in the diary room that Devin needs to realize that this is Big Brother and that people are going to lie.

Hayden and Nicole have been flirting over the past few days with Hayden revealing his “schoolboy” crush on Nicole. Nicole and Christine decide to work with Hayden in a secret alliance, needing Hayden for his physical ability at competitions. Another alliance is formed in the BB house. In the HOH room, ‘Bomb Squad’ members are discussing who to nominate this week. Devin mentions maybe Paola and Brittany. Amber does not want to put up two girls, so she doesn’t appear to be working with the guys. Devin suggests maybe nominating an alliance member as a ‘pawn’. Derrick shoots that down immediately, saying that Nicole hasn’t been playing the game and is “floating” through the house. Caleb says that Jocasta is the biggest floater in the house now. It seems now that nominations are up in the air right now.

The kitchen is a “war zone” according to Amber and Devin which leads to a mild exchange between him and Brittany. Brittany claims that Devin is stirring the pot with people in the house. The nomination ceremony turns out to be quite interesting this week. A random draw determines the order the HOH’s nominate. Devin is the first to nominate and he nominates Paola and Brittany. There is definitely a little tension between Devin and Brittany this week. Amber nominates Hayden and Nicole for eviction. Immediately following the nomination ceremony, Nicole is in the fire room and Devin comes in and tells her and Hayden to come up to the HOH room in five minutes.

Brittany and Paola are discussing why Amber just nominated them. Devin talks with Hayden and Nicole are reassures them that they are not the targets this week and that Devin’s target for the week is Brittany. Devin also claims in the D.R. that he has a plan for Paola to throw the Battle of the Block competition. Devin talks with Paola about the possibility of throwing the competition. He says that she will be safe for the next few weeks if she does this. Paola feels that Brittany has been causing drama in the house and she definitely seems tempted to do this.

The Battle of the Block competition begins at 5:10 a.m. and the competition is called ‘We Did What?’. In this competition they are asked a serious of questions based on repeating pictures they see. The first team to score four points wins the competition. The competition is based on memory and there are punishments that can be handed out to the other team. Hayden and Nicole win the competition 4-2 and now come off the nomination block as well as Amber being dethroned as HOH. Devin is happy that his nominations of Paola and Brittany are staying intact and it all comes down to the Power of Veto this Wednesday night. I think that Devin’s game has been questionable so far and I would like to see Brittany win the Power of Veto this week.
