Comedian Brooks Wheelan announced today on his Twitter that his one-season stint on Lorne Michael’s Saturday Night Live has ended.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, a source associated with SNL has verified the rumor that Wheelan will not return.
The Reporter also notes that future decisions on the cast will be made in the upcoming weeks.
Wheeler was probably doomed from the start, since he himself admitted that he was never trained in character work or sketch comedy. Producer Lorne Michaels' (pictured below) decision to cast him seems almost confusing in retrospect, and Wheeler’s little screen time last season shows that the writers had little idea how to utilize the Wheeler’s talents.
The cast changes made for the 2013 – 2014 season, as noted by both we and the Reporter, were greatly significant. Marked by the departure of Seth Meyers from his role as head writer and host of "Weekend Update" (who was replaced in both positions by Colin Jost), the cast included sizable additions, including Sasheer Zamata (who was added in response to criticisms over a lack of racial diversity in the cast) and Wheeler himself, who was a last minute replacement.
