Five family members were found shot to death in their apartment in Southern Maine on Sunday afternoon.
Three children, ages ranging from 4 to 12-years-old, and their parents, who were in their 30s, were found by a worker at the apartment complex in Saco. A concerned family friend contacted the worker when they did not hear from the family for a while, reported the Associated Press .
When the worker discovered the scene, he called the police. The bodies were found in three different rooms. A long gun, as described by police, was found near one of the bodies.
According to the Portland Press Herald , neighbors did not hear the gunshots, but said they saw the man in the family drive off quickly. He later returned, and reportedly slammed the door.
“All indications are that no one outside of the family was responsible for the deaths. These are not accidental deaths,” said Stephen McCausland.
McCausland, who is the spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety, said a deputy medical examiner was also dispatched to the scene.
An autopsy will be performed on Monday on all of the bodies.
