Marvel unveils new Captain America on 'The Colbert Report' (Video)

One big announcement a week isn't enough for Marvel Entertainment. Just a few days after using The View to announce a new Thor, the Disney-owned publisher announced a new Captain America on The Colbert Report Wednesday night.

Marvel chief creative officer Joe Quesada told Stephen Colbert that, since Steve Rogers has now lost the super serum that keeps him from ageing, he has to hand the shield over to a new face. Much to Colbert’s disappointment, it’s not him.

Instead, that face will be Sam Wilson, better known as The Falcon. (“Because if there’s one bird people associate with America, it is the Falcon,” Colbert replied.)

Now that The Falcon is moving over to Captain America, that leaves a void in the Marvel universe. So, Quesada said that Colbert could always be the new Falcon and showed off some snazzy artwork with Colbert in full Falcon gear.

Of course, the Internet is still buzzing about Tuesday’s news. Marvel announced that Thor was going to be a woman, since the male Thor is no longer worthy of using Mjolnir the hammer.

However, these changes are only in the comics. Chris Evans will still be Cap in the movies and Chris Hemsworth isn’t going to lose his job. Anthony Mackie isn’t going to be fronting his own Captain America movie any time soon.
