Trailer Weekly: 'Tammy,' 'Deliver Us from Evil,' 'Earth to Echo,' and 'America'

Wednesday, July 2, 2014, four highly anticipated movies will debut. Usually blockbusters are released on Fridays. However, the 4th of July is this Friday. In addition, most schools are on summer vacation. Still, four movies in one day may hurt individual ticket sales. On a positive note, each movie is geared towards a different audience. The four genres are horror, comedy, adventure, and documentary.

Losing your job and your husband on the same week is rough for anyone. So, how do you deal with it? Go on a cross country robbing trip with your grandma. Yes, Tammy uses unconventional methods to get back at the franchise that fired her and make money as she does it. Melissa McCarthy is Tammy, the hilarious leading lady, and Susan Sarandon is her Grandma Pearl. Who knew grandmas could be so feisty. The wit and moments of dry humor make it a promising film.

In the mood for cold sweats and blood curdling screams? Deliver Us from Evil is not for the faint hearted. A police officer investigates a string of crimes, but he is not alone. A priest, who specializes in exorcisms, is along for the ride. The film is based on a book, which shares scary details of real crimes. This film is full of terror that will leave you sitting on the edge of your seat. If you can’t handle the sight of blood, you do not want to watch this.

Earth to Echo is an E.T. for this generation. Instead of one boy finding it, a group of friends run into a small robotic alien. The kids have to sort through encrypted messages to help it get home. Parents, there is mild language in this movie. If this doesn’t bother you, this action adventure is a great movie to watch with your preteens. Just try not to compare it to E. T.

What if General George Washington lost the Revolutionary War? What would the world be like without America? Dinesh D'Souza, John Sulliva, and Bruce Schooley attempt to answer that question. This documentary presents historical footage as well as reenactments. You have to consider the major roles America played in World War I and World War II, as well as its current position in the world today. If you want something that will stimulate your mind, I would watch this movie this weekend.

For the most part, they are not direct competition. Box offices across the nation should have a good turn out this week.
