In news that won't likely surprise anyone, ABC has decided that freshman drama Black Box will not return for a second season.
According to Entertainment Weekly, ABC confirmed that the medical drama starring Kelly Reilly as a bipolar neurologist will not be getting a second season.
The midseason series ran for 13 episodes and concluded two weeks ago to continually lowering ratings.
Black Box struggled mightily in live+same day ratings, with an early May episode managing only a 1.1 rating in the advertiser-important 18-49 demographic back when there was actual competition on at night.
The show closed out quietly on July 24 to only a 0.7 rating in the important demo in the middle of summer with little original content to compete for viewers' attention.
Still, ET notes Black Box's numbers did look marginally better when DVR numbers were included, with the series averaging a 1.8 demo rating during its 13-episode run. The show did also average 7.1 million viewers.
