ALS Ice Bucket Challenge Fundraiser dies at age 27

The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge has taken over social media the past few months as even celebrities such as Tom Hiddleston, Oprah and Conan O’Brien. Sadly though one of the guys who kicked off the popular trend passed away after a driving accident.

Corey Griffin was 27 when he called his father to tell him that he was in paradise as he had helped raise $100,000 for ALS in honor of his friend Pete Frates who has been living with the condition for years reports the Boston Globe.

It was merely hours later that Griffin drove into the harbor as Police got word of a missing man missing at around 2 a.m. on Saturday night reports Us Weekly. A nearby lifeguard retrieved Griffin from the harbor and he was pronounced dead at 3 a.m.

Frates wrote on his Facebook page, “Helping out was nothing new for Griff. He held his own event for me back in 2012, just a few months after diagnosis. He worked his butt off these last few weeks for ALS. We texted everyday, planning and scheming ways to raise funds and plan events. God Bless. RIP Corey.”
