Broadway’s 'Aladdin' makes heartfelt tribute to Robin Williams

The cast of Aladdin on Broadway has created a heartfelt tribute to the late Robin Williams—and involved its audience in the process.

Williams famously voiced the part of the Genie in the 1992 Disney animated film Aladdin. According to Gossip Cop, the cast of the Broadway production of the same name has honored Williams in a very special way.

James Monroe Iglehart, a Tony-winning Broadway performer, marched to the front of the stage to make a sentimental speech about Williams. Iglehart plays the Genie in the Broadway production. “Yesterday we lost one of the greatest—not comedians—but entertainers of all time,” he told the audience. “We want to give our hearts and our prayers and our thoughts to his family, because he’s a husband and a father first, entertainer second.”

After praising Williams for his decades of work in the entertainment business, Iglehart led the entire audience in a special sing-along performance of “Friend Like Me.”

The theater bursts into song in the video, making for an emotional tribute to Williams and his family. Warning: the video is definitely a tearjerker.

Williams will also reportedly receive a moving tribute at the Emmys, which air on August 25.
