CBS pushes 'Extant' finale up a week earlier

CBS has decided that science fiction event series Extant will close a week earlier than originally planned.

The series, which stars Halle Berry, will now close out its 13-episode run on Sept. 17 instead of a week later, TheWrap reports. Despite the move, the network will still air all episodes.

In the finale's place on Wednesday, Sept. 24 there will be extra long episodes of reality programs Survivor and Big Brother, with the former set to premiere, while the other finishes its season.

Extant has struggled in the ratings and ahead of last week's episode CBS announced the event series was moving back an hour to 10 p.m. and an encore episode of Criminal Minds would air in the lead-in position.

The desperate move didn't prove at all beneficial, nor did it hurt, the freshman series. The July 30 episode pulled in a 1.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic for live+same day, coming out even.

The Wednesday telecast managed to get beaten by Sharknado: The Second One.
