Veteran video vixen Melyssa Ford unveiled her first play this week in New York. The play, called “For Vixens Who’ve Considered Homicide When the Video Was Too Much,” ran this week at the American Theatre of Actors.
The play is a satire of women in the music industry, using humor to dispel the rumors of video vixens leading a glamorous life. Ford was inspired to create the play after realizing the stigmas and stereotypes surrounding video models and decided to take a different approach to tell her story.
“I just found myself at loss with the fact that I seem to be the benchmark or the standard but yet no one had heard my opinion of what I thought happened or what my experiences were.” Ford tells All Hip Hop.
The play chronicles the life of a 16-year-old girl who leaves home to become a video model. Ford also plays a role in the play, as a veteran model who tries to change the industry, using humor and pop culture references, the play brings to life the glamour and the exploitation of women in the music industry. Billboard reports, "The play was produced by director and actor J. Kyle Manzay and Love & Hip Hop star Yandy Smith. The play ends its’ run this Sunday.
