Katy Perry has spoken about what she thinks of fame, and it’s not pretty.
The “Dark Horse” singer recently opened up to Rolling Stone about what it is like living life in the spotlight. Perry said that fame is just a part of the job, but only if you’ve got the talent to deserve the attention.
“People want to be recognized for their work, but nobody wants to be famous for nothing,” she said. “Fame is, I think, disgustindg ... Useless fame is disgusting.”
As for her own aspirations, Perry maintained that she “never wanted to be famous” and that media attention is a “byproduct” of her career as a chart-topping pop star.
Perry encouraged those who have talent and a drive to share their work with others to reap the benefits of fame, though she slammed media-craving celebrities in the same breath. “I think if you've got a talent or something to offer, a creative thing to offer to the world, then I think that's beautiful,” she said. “But that famous for nothing thing is kind of gross.”
Perry also said that she’d like to try some new things with her music. She hopes to do some acoustic work in the future and share a different side of her musical persona with the world. “I want to do an acoustic record and do a tour that’s all theaters and just have my acoustic guitar and my Telecaster and people would be like, ‘What the f**k?’” she said. When asked about the reason for her desire to chart a different path with her career, she said, “I don’t have to prove anything to anyone because I know who I am.”
