The owner of a KFC branch in Nebraska got a pleasant surprise this week when he received a letter of apology from a patron who stole a piece of chicken from the store’s buffet.
According to World Herald News an apology was mailed to Nebraskan KFC store owner Rocky Rasmussen after someone took an extra piece of chicken home from the buffet. The envelope that contained the note was accompanied by $2. The letter is unsigned, leaving the repenting customer a mystery.
“This $2 is for the piece of chicken I brought home with me on Tuesday,” the letter began. “That’s stealing. Sorry!” The anonymous patron went on to explain what happened at the restaurant before asking for forgiveness. “I took more on my plate than I could eat and I knew it would get thrown away there because it couldn’t get put back on the buffet, so I put it in my purse and brought it home,” he or she explained. “I do love your chicken!”
While theft may have irked another store manager, Rasmussen remained touched by the incident and wished to help out the person involved. To him, the occurrence proves that there are still good people in the world. “It just makes your faith in people come back a little more,” Rasmussen said. “Whoever it was probably doesn’t have a lot of money. To send a couple bucks back to us is pretty remarkable. It’s very touching.”
Rasmussen admitted that theft from the buffet at the establishment is an “ongoing problem” and that people take advantage of KFC’s buffet policies. He would like to know the identity of the person involved, as he hopes to bring aid someone in need. Rasmussen has owned the North Platte Nebraska KFC franchise for 39 years.
