Top 10 favorite male groups of the '90s

Last month, we at TheCelebrityCafe.com counted down our top 10 favorite female singers of the 90s. Still feeling nostalgic, we realized we couldn’t leave out the guys!

Among the different genres of the 90s to early 2000s, it was hard to pick all just 10 of them. Instead, we decided to countdown the heartthrobs who sang the catchy pop and dance tunes that we blasted on our radios and cassette players – or Walkman’s if we were lucky.

From the bubblegum pop boys to the more hip-hop influenced groups, we hung their faces on our walls and wrote their names in hearts across our notebooks. Still, 20 years later, you can definitely remember the songs of the Backstreet Boys, Blink-182 and 98 degrees before they were all married with kids or broken up.

Here are our top 10 favorite guys who gave us lyrics as great as, “when I first met you my name was Rich. You look like a girl from Abercrombie and Fitch.”

10. LMNT

Although they didn’t rise to fame until 2000, LMNT made our list for their short lived history. Known for their number one hit, “Juliet,” the four members of LMNT came together after auditioning for MTV’s Making the Band. Their one album didn’t get good feedback but fun fact: Glee’s Matthew Moorison is credited with the group in his early years.

9. All-4-One

Known for their 1994 hit single (and probably one of the most common wedding songs), “I Swear,” All-4-One is a four-piece group who is still around today. They were so popular back in 1995 the single even won a Grammy.

8. Westlife

Simon Cowell signed this Irish boy band back in 1998. Seven albums later the group (who was often compared to the Backstreet Boys) split only recently in 2012. We like them for their different, yet similar, sounding boyband sound. Here’s the group singing their hit single “Swear It Again” from their 2000 debut album, Westlife.

[ new page = O-Town ]

7. O-Town

Formed during MTV’s Making the Band - along with LMNT – O-Town gained huge success throughout its time. Known for this hit 2001 sing, “All or Nothing,” we bet that you can still sing along to the words these smooth singers belt. Fun facts: Ashley Parker Angel was a past member but declined to follow through with the group after the series ended.

[ new page = *N Sync ]

6. *N Sync

Formed in 1995, the group of five consisted of two former Disney stars and three other musically gifted boys who came together to join the pop boy group music scene. Justin Timberlake, JC Chasez, Lance Bass, Joey Fatone and Chris Kirkpatrick are all household names that got their start singing alongside Britney Spears (who remembers when Justin and Britney were the best couple ever?) and appearing on shows like Sabrina the Teenage Witch.

[ new page = 98 Degrees ]

5. 98 Degrees

Formed in 1997, these four heartthrobs were known for their powerful pop and R&B ballads including one of the most common wedding songs to date, the 1999 hit, “I Do (Cherish You).” Nick Lachey, Drew Lachey, Justin Jeffre and Jeff Timmons took a hiatus in 2003 but restarted their career as a group in 2012.

[ new page = LFO ]

4. LFO

In the mid 90s, a three-member group called LFO hit the radio airwaves with their hit song, “Summergirls.” Devin Lima, Brad Fischetti and the late Rich Cronin sang their songs with a hip-hop background that coined the verse, “When I met you I said my name was rich. You look like a girl from Abercrombie and Fitch.” Their second single, “Girl on TV,” featured actress Jennifer Love Hewitt but was also based on the I Know What You Did Last Summer star.

[ new page = Sugar Ray ]

3. Sugar Ray

Originally forming in 1986, Sugar Ray became known for their singles in the mid 90s with “Fly,” “Every Morning,” and “Someday.” Different than other boy bands, they were more funk based with an alternative edge. The group is still around today touring and rumored to be working on new music.

[ new page = Blink-182 ]

2. Blink-182

The three person skate punk group known as Blink-182 rose to fame in the late 90s after being underground for most of the beginning of the decade. Their 1999 album, Enema of the State gained huge success with singles like “What’s My Age Again?” “All the Small Things” and “Adam’s Song.” In 2005 the group went on a small hiatus to experiment with other music but eventually came back together in 2009. More than 20 years later, the band has defined a generation and is still gaining young fans.

[ new page = Backstreet Boys ]

1. Backstreet Boys

In 1992, five guys came together and created a legendary group. The Backstreet Boys not only were the biggest selling group of its time but were known for their number one singles like “Quit Playing Games (With My Heart)” and “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back).”
