VMAs homeless man Jesse Helt turns himself in to Oregon Police

Jesse Helt, the 22-year-old man who accepted Miley Cyrus’ Video of the Year award at the MTV VMAs on Sunday to bring attention to homeless youth, has officially turned himself in to the Oregon Police.

As previously reported by TheCelebrityCafe.com, Helt has been a wanted man in Oregon after violating his probation for criminal trespassing a few years ago. The warrant for his arrest had been outstanding for three years until Thursday evening, when he turned himself over to police in Dallas, Oregon.

Helt first came to the public’s attention with his moving speech on the struggles of homeless youth within the United States during the live broadcast of the 2014 Video Music Awards. Miley Cyrus sent him up on stage to promote awareness before pleading for donations to My Friend’s Place in a video on her Facebook page. My Friend’s Place is a foundation working to eliminate youth homelessness in the LA metro area.

Gossip Cop reports that Helt was brought to the Polk County Jail before posting $2,500 bail. Helt repeatedly failed drug tests and skipped meetings with his probation officer while in Oregon before heading to Los Angeles in hopes of starting a modeling career. He will see a judge in a few weeks, and Cyrus is reportedly paying the legal fees.
