Emily West sheds light on coming in second ‘America’s Got Talent’ to Mat Franco

Wednesday’s final episode of America’s Got Talent was an emotional one for the contestants who did not win the final prize but not a discouraging one.

Sons of Serendip, Quintavious Johnson, Miguel Dakota and AcroArmy lost America’s vote leaving magician Mat Franco to win the million-dollar prize and the headlining show in Las Vegas.

However, Iowa-based singer Emily West was voted second place to Franco and despite the loss, the 33-year-old contestant still smiled as she walked the red carpet after the show.

“It’s just been an incredible journey and it’s such an experience,” she said.

West’s journey on the variety show started in March during try-outs when she wowed the judges and America with her covers of “Sea of Love” by Phil Phillips and Sia’s “Chandelier.”

She brought back her cover of the Sia hit on Tuesday night as she stood center stage in a long, flowing red gown that covered most of the floor.

During the results at the season finale on Wednesday, she joined Cyndi Lauper in a duet to Lauper’s hit song, “True Colors.”

The two sang in perfect harmony.

West said that performing with Lauper was “The most thrilling experience of my life.”

“It was kind of like a Cinderella story. Five weeks ago I’m cleaning a house and now I’m at Radio City Music Hall singing with my fairy godmother and handing me the torch of pop star freedom and I’m going to take that pumpkin and ride it all the way out,” she said.

“I’m so grateful for her,” she continued. “She’s an inspiration to me and so many girls to just not be afraid and, you know, guys. Go be you and not be afraid.”
