ISIS releases second video threat to United States, executes U.S. journalist Steven Sotloff

ISIS released a video of the execution of American journalist, Steven Sotloff titled ‘A Second Message to America.’ This comes just two weeks after the chilling video footage of American journalist James Foley was released.

In the video, ISIS says the murder comes from retaliation of the continued airstrikes in Iraq, according to the Daily Mail.

Much like the previous video, Sotloff dons an orange jumpsuit, while the executioner appears to be the same man that killed Foley, known as ‘Jihadi John.” In the video, the Islamic State fighter says, “I’m back, Obama, and I’m back because of your arrogant foreign policy towards the Islamic State.”

In addition to the disturbing footage and comments, he also threatens to next kill a Brit being held hostage.

Sotloff, 31, was a freelance journalist from Miami captured in northern Syria in August 2013. The New York Times reports that Sotloff’s mother released an emotional video, in which she pleaded directly to the leader of ISIS to spare her son.

“I am sending this message to you, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi al-Quraishi al-Hussaini, the caliph of the Islamic State,” Sotloff said. “I am Shirley Sotloff. My son Steven is in your hands. You, the caliph, can grant amnesty. I ask you please to release my child. I ask you to use your authority to spare his life.”
