New York Giants put Geoff Schwartz on injure reserve list, sign Adam Snyder

New York Giants guard Geoff Schwartz was put on the short-term injured reserve list on Wednesday.

Schwartz dislocated his right big toe during a preseason game against the New York Jets. That game was during week three of the preseason. He can’t practice with the team for six weeks and will be eligible to play in week nine, according to ESPN. However, the Giants aren't required to activate Schwartz when he is eligible to play again.

The Giants also signed guard Adam Snyder on Wednesday, who will fill in for Schwartz while he is out. Snyder was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in 2005, and played for the 49ers for eight of his nine years in the NFL. The 49ers waived him last week after he didn’t make the team’s roster. He spent his first seven seasons with the 49ers and played in 137 games with 87 starts during that time, according to the New York Post. In 2012, he played for the Arizona Cardinals and started 14 games that year. He resigned with the 49ers last year and started four games.

Schwartz, who had been playing left guard, has been moved to right guard along with Brandon Mosley. Rookie Weston Richburg has been put into Schwartz’s left guard spot and John Jerry has taken Mosley’s right guard spot.

Snyder wasn't the only player that the Giants have signed. They signed tight end Jerome Cunningham and defensive tackle Dominique Hamilton also. Cunningham was with the Giants this summer and Hamilton was with the Chiefs in the preseason. The Giants now have filled the two spots that were left on their practice squad with the signing of Cunningham and Hamilton.
