The final season of Sons of Anarchy kicks off this week, coming off a season in which two of the show's mainstays met Mr. Mayhem, leaving our anti-hero Jax Teller in the darkest place he's been since the show started (and that's even including his infant son being kidnapped and taken to Ireland). There were betrayals galore, both within the club and from those closest to it, that played a major factor in the bloody resolution of the penultimate season.
The major narrative of season six was driven by the school shooting (a moment that made the list) and the district attorney's drive to pin the shooting on the Sons. From a club standpoint, Jax's main objective is to finally get the MC out of the gun running business and the extra microscope of the school shooting sure didn't help. Jax and the Sons had to deal with an increased presence of the Irish, and the ongoing threat of the RICO case that DA Patterson (recurring guest star CCH Pounder) was trying to hit the club with.
Looking back, there were plenty more than ten moments to sum up the season, but these ten stood out more so than the rest. As with the show itself, a lot of these tend to be a little violent, but it never fails to come to a violent end in Charming.

10. "Either Mommy moved away, or Mommy passed away" ("Huang Wu")
Gemma, at this point, already told Jax about Tara lying about pretty much everything. Gemma confronts Tara in her own home about how Jax won't let her leave with the boys and gives her the template for how she'll explain it to Abel and Thomas. Gemma says she'll either say that Tara moved away (aka prison) or that she died (which she was probably secretly hoping was more along the lines of the truth).

9. Hands off ("Wolfsangel")
Jax tells the Irish that he wants out of guns. He has a plan to transition the gun running business, but he tells Galen that the club needs to lay low following the school shooting, as one of their guns was used. Jax asks that the Irish respect that, and Galen responds by telling Jax that they'll keep their hands off for the time being. And that's what Galen does, more literally than Jax would have liked though. The Sons find Phil and V-Lin murdered, minus their hands.

8. Otto kills Lee Toric ("Wolfsangel")
He had been toying with him, dating back to last season. Everyone knew it was eventually going to end very badly for retired US Marshall Lee Toric. Clay slipped Otto the weapon, and Otto brutally killed Toric, while getting himself shot multiple times in the process.

7. Jax fights Nero, Gemma drops the truth about Tara ("John 8:32")
Nero just wanted Jax to know the truth, but Jax desperately didn't want to believe it. The two of them got into a pretty ugly fist fight after Nero went and talked to Tara against Jax's wishes. Once Gemma got there to break it up, she told Jax everything she knew, which was actually the whole truth, for once.

6. Tara's miscarriage ("Sweet and Vaded")
This was really the event that set the whole end of the season drama in motion between Jax, Tara and Gemma. Tara was in the middle of her legal battle to try and secure custody of her sons in case she goes to prison, but she knew Gemma would be an obstacle. Tara had told everyone she was pregnant (a lie), and in the middle of the fight with Gemma, Tara stages a miscarriage by jumping onto her desk with a blood bag tucked away in her shirt.

5. The Irish blow up TM ("The Mad King")
Jax really wants the club out of guns. The Irish had different plans. Even after killing Phil and V-Lin, the Irish weren't done with the club just yet. They call Jax and ask that all the members be around the table for their call about the decision whether the club will be let out of guns, but when Jax sees an out of place shamrock pen in the clubhouse, he questions it. Chucky tells Jax that the beer delivery guy left it. Jax gets everyone out in time, but...BOOM goes the clubhouse.

4. The school shooting ("Straw")
Talk about a way to start off a season. Sons has never been a show to shy away from the dark, violent and disturbing, but a young boy shooting up a school? That's even a bit much, even for this show's standards. Matthew Jennings, a deeply disturbed and bullied boy, took a KG9 from his mother's boyfriend, who in turn got the gun from the club, setting up the season long battle with the DA for SAMCRO.

3. The prison break ("Aon Rud Persanta")
The show has always put together very good action set pieces, but the sequence where the Irish, with the help from the Sons, break Clay out of his prison transport is one of the best. Just about all of the major players are involved, including Clay unexpectedly seeing Jax spring him from the truck. Much like everything the club does, this doesn't go off without a hitch, as Bobby is shot during the escape.

2. Clay Meets Mr. Mayhem ("Aon Rud Persanta")
So, it seems Jax and the guys agreed to spring Clay just so they could kill him. It was a long time coming, as Clay probably should have died at Opie's hand after he learned that Clay killed Piney. The even more shocking aspect of this sequence was the look on his face when he made eye contact with Gemma through the office window just before Jax shot Clay right in the throat, then about six more times in the chest.

1. Gemma kills Tara, Juice kills Roosevelt ("A Mother's Work")
What an ending. Intercut with Jax giving tearful goodbyes to all his brothers because he's going to jail so Tara can be safe with the boys, Tara gets home and runs into Gemma in the kitchen. Gemma still thinks Tara ratted out the club, so she does what she thinks is the right thing to do: dunk Tara in a sink full of water and stab her repeatedly with a serving fork until she dies. Outside, Roosevelt and Juice hear the commotion and go in to find Tara dead on the floor. Roosevelt tells Gemma that Tara didn't rat, that Jax gave himself up. As he goes to call it in, Juice walks in behind Roosevelt and shoots him multiple times. Later that night, Jax arrives home to see both Roosevelt and Tara dead on the floor. He holds his dead wife and is visibly in the most pain we've ever seen him on the show.
