"Disney's Big Hero 6 delighted audiences at its premiere at the Tokyo International Film Festival.
Big Hero 6 is the latest film from Walt Disney Animation Studios. It follows the story of a boy genius named Hiro Hamada, voiced by Ryan Potter, who transforms his deceased older brother's clumsy robot, Baymax, into a powerful fighter in order to save his city from a kabuki-mask wearing man with villainous intentions.
Hiro's fictional city is called San Fransokyo which is inspired by a combination of San Francisco and Tokyo architecture.
This is the first time Disney has premiered one of its films overseas in Japan and the producer of the movie, Ron Conli, was excited for the opportunity, according to Variety.
“I’ve always wanted to have a film at the Tokyo Film Festival. It just so happened that this film really is a love letter in many senses to Japanese culture and possibly in a bigger sense to the Pacific Rim. The possibility to launch the film here is a true honor.""
Since Frozen became the phenomenon that it is today, critics and fans are eager to see if Disney can bring another success to the big screen.
The co-director of the film, Chris Williams, spoke at the Tokyo International Film Festival and CRI English reported that he is confident that the movie's story will impact viewers.
""The emotional relationship between Hiro and Baymax is the center of the film, and we know that Hiro goes through a terrible loss, and one of the things that the film says is when we lose people who are close to us, they can still live on through us so we don't lose them completely,"" Williams said.
Explore the creative city of San Fransokyo when Big Hero 6 hits theaters stateside Nov. 7.
