"It isn’t quite as big as hosting the Oscars, but Queen Latifah will still get to rub shoulders with A-listers at the first-ever broadcast Hollywood Film Awards ceremony.
CBS announced on Friday that the syndicated talk show host will handle hosting duties at this year’s ceremony, which takes place at the Hollywood Palladium. Back in January, the eye network secured broadcast rights for the ceremony, which has only previously been streamed online.
The Hollywood Film Awards are the brainchild of Carlos de Abreu, who began the tradition in 1997. It is considered a pre-party for the awards season and, despite the relative meaningless of the awards, stars still come out to pick up their hardware. De Abreu and his team pick the winners themselves and nominees are not announced before the ceremony.
Last year’s ceremony was attended by Matthew McConaughey, Kanye West, Sandra Bullock, Jake Gyllenhaal, Jared Leto and Harrison Ford.
The 2013 event took place in October, but this year’s will be held back until November. The events start at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 14 with a red carpet show, followed by the awards at 8 p.m. At 10 p.m., there will be a special CBS This Morning post-show with Charlie Rose, Gayle King and Norah O’Donnell to break down the “thank you” speeches you just watched.
Queen Latifah currently hosts The Queen Latifah Show, a syndicated talk show. She is also a producer on Vh1’s Single Ladies and the CW’s upcoming The Star Next Door. She was nominated for an Oscar for Chicago.
