Tim Burton's 'Edward Scissorhands' returns as a comic miniseries

Anyone who is a fan of the dark, mysterious, and classic Tim Burton film Edward Scissorhands will be happy to know that the beloved story will be returning in an artistic and creative way.

IDW Publishing plans on releasing a four issue miniseries of Edward Scissorhands comics which will be serving as a sort of sequel to the original 1990 film. Talented comic writer Kate Leth will be responsible for bringing the story of Edward Scissorhands back to life and Drew Rausch will be the artist bringing back the romantic yet dark feel to the story through his illustrations.

This new miniseries will take place many years after the ending of the original film and will mainly focus on Kim’s granddaughter, who did appear in the movie at the end. However in these comics she will be much older and the legend of Edward Scissorhands will be more of whisperings amongst the town at this point. Besides the town itself and the new cast of characters there will also be a new type of creature that the inventor from the original movie had made and forgotten about before Edward. In the teasers it is being said that this unknown creature will be appearing in the comics.
In an interview with Comic Book Resources, Leth describes the miniseries and its story as, “A whole new set of people...It’s a new story, just set in the same universe.”

When she was asked about her love and passion for all things Tim Burton Leth said, “I am definitely a Tim Burton fan. I had seen Edward Scissorhands enough times to know it by heart. That's exciting. To work on something you feel like you really get.”
Other fans of Tim Burton are excited as well because one typically doesn’t see sequels from Tim Burton’s original works.

According to Charles Webb from the popular online site Nerdist, he said, “I’m searching my memory, but I think this would mark only the second true sequel to an original Tim Burton story, following the old Beetlejuice cartoon which mostly remixed and removed elements from the far darker film that preceded it.”

The first issue of of Edward Scissorhands is already available at your local comic book shop. Don’t miss the opportunity to immerse yourself into the romantic, dark, yet beautiful story of Edward Scissorhands at a new level.
