Bruce Campbell, famous for the Evil Dead series, will return to the role that put him on the map in the Starz-produced Evil Dead television series Ash Vs. Evil Dead, according to Comic Book Resources on Monday.
The news of Campbell's return was released in a press release by the series' director Sam Raimi and Campbell himself. The show will be a continuation of the cult films, following the aging monster-hunting Ash and what he has been doing for the last 30 years, according to CBR.
"Evil Dead has always been a blast. Bruce, Rob [Tapert, Evil Dead's producer], and I are thrilled to have the opportunity to tell the next chapter in Ash’s lame, but heroic saga," Raimi said in the press release. "With his chainsaw arm and his ‘boomstick,’ Ash is back to kick some monster butt. And brother, this time there’s a truckload of it."
Campbell himself expressed his excitement returning to the role, as well as bringing the series to the Evil Dead fans worldwide.
"It's going to be everything [the fans] have been clamoring for: serious deadite ass-kicking and plenty of outrageous humor," he added.
Along with the return of Campbell, Raimi and Tapert will return as executive producers of the show.
The first Evil Dead movie was released in 1981 and followed the story of five friends who are attacked by flesh-eating demons. The film inspired two sequels Evil Dead II: Dead by Dawn and Army of Darkness. The film was also rebooted in 2013 and was co-produced by Raimi and Campbell.
Ash Vs. Evil Dead premieres on Starz in 2015.
