On Thursday, legendary comedic director and EGOT recipient Mike Nichols died of cardiac arrest at the age of 83. Nichols was famous for directing the 1967 film The Graduate starring Dustin Hoffman and 1996's The Birdcage, which starred the late Robin Williams and Nathan Lane.
Actors and actress across Twitter-wide took to the social media site to comment on Nichols, sending their thoughts and regards of the late director and comedian.
"We are grateful for your contribution to the art of film," The Vampire Diaries' Ian Somerhalder wrote in a post. "Thank you for inspiring us all-so much love to those close to you."

"He was one of the greats," Legendary actress/singer Barbra Streisand wrote. "[A]s a performer and a director."
Along with her post, Streisand posted a photo of Nichols and herself among others

"Brilliant director, lovely gentleman," How I Met Your Mother's Neil Patrick Harris wrote about Nichols in his post. "Total class act. His work wil live on forever."

Legendary Hollywood composer and artist Quincy Jones also posted condolences to Nichols' family.
"RIP to a great director and a dear friend, Mike Nichols," he wrote. "My thoughts and prayers are with his beautiful wife Diane and his children."

Comedic actress Anna Kendrick, who was traveling to London for work, learned of Nichols' death after getting off her plane.
"Legend. RIP." she wrote simply.
