Miami Marlins and Giancarlo Stanton agree to mega 13-year, $325 million deal

Despite their frugal past, the Miami Marlins have finally opened up the pocket books. Giancarlo Stanton will now be in Miami for a very long time after inking the biggest contract in American Sports history, surpassing Alex Rodriguez's Yankee-deal of $275 million.

According to CBS Sports, the Marlins have inked Stanton to the tune of a mega 13-year, $325 million deal. The deal includes an early opt-out clause which is speculated to be after the fifth-season of the contract.

Stanton, 25, is one of the biggest stars in the sport who hit .288, smashed 37 HR's and 105 RBI's last season, notes Baseball Reference. The move lends instant credibility to a club which was previously undeserving. It reverses the trend of how the organization handled prior young stars such as Miguel Cabrera, Hanley Ramirez, and Josh Beckett where each were traded away.

Amazingly though, the Marlins have won two World Series titles in their short history. It's the two fire-sales that occurred afterwards which saw their fan-base plummet.

Now, with a young core of Stanton in the everyday lineup and Jose Fernandez anchoring their rotation, the Marlins have two cornerstone players for the better part of a decade.
