One Direction, Katy Perry win top awards at American Music Awards

The fan-voted American Music Awards were last night at the Nokia Theatre LA Live, starting off with a performance from Taylor Swift. However, the real winner was One Direction, which took home a trio of awards. Katy Perry was also a big winner with three.

Perry won Single of the Year for “Dark Horse,” which features Juicy J. She also won Favorite Female Artist - Pop/Rock and Favorite Artist - Adult Contemporary.

One Direction was named Artist of the Year and Favorite Band, Duo or Group - Pop/Rock. They also won Favorite Album - Pop/Rock for Midnight Memoires.

While 5 Seconds to Summer won New Artist of the Year, other newer faces didn’t go home empty handed. Sam Smith won Favorite Male Artist - Pop/Rock, while Iggy Azalea was named Favorite Artist - Rap/Hip-Hop. Imagine Dragons also won Favorite Artist - Alternative Rock.

Where was Swift? Well, she still won the Dick Clark Award for Excellence.
