The Discovery of Who They Really Are
Ichabod and Abbie are trying to find a weapon to defeat Moloch. They are using techniques used by profilers when they are stuck on a case. Katrina contacts them using Henry’s mirror and tells them Moloch has grown stronger and could rule the world within two days time. Katrina hears movement and disappears. Henry walks up to the mirror and is able to spy on Abbie and Ichabod’s conversation. They are using old journals and come across ‘The Chosen Words’. Ichabod discovers that this is an anagram and that the words really mean ‘Enoch’s Sword.’ Enoch is an ancient hebrew text and Ichabod is able to discover from the text the legend of a man who was given the sword of Methuselah to defeat 1,000 demons. It can kill any being on Earth. Ichabod also discovers from an image of an old political cartoon drawn by Ben Franklin that the sword is hidden at the river. They find a map and know they must retrieve this weapon. They also have to completely understand who they are in order to complete this quest.
Henry has observed the entire conversation and tells The Horseman that he must retrieve this sword before they do. The Horseman argues that it will be light soon while Henry yells at him, telling him to use the daylight while he still has it!
Jenny is attempting to get Irving across the Canadian border. Sheriff Reyes is assembling a task force to catch him. They have been warned that checkpoints will be set up to try and stop them. They approach a checkpoint and Irving jumps out of the car before Jenny gets too close. Irving disappears into the woods.
The Horseman is preparing to search for the sword and is not falling victim to Katrina’s distractions. Abbie and Ichabod arrive in the woods and Abbie recognizes the building. It was in her dream in Purgatory with her mother. She realizes her mother was leading her there. The Horseman arrives and they stay hidden. Abbie follows after him and makes a noise that draws his attention. He is about to find her when Ichabod calls out to him and cause him to step into the early morning sunlight. The Horseman starts to slowly burn and is forced to retreat. Ichabod knows this quest for the sword will inevitably go through The Horseman.
We see a flashback of Ichabod and Abraham fencing with Abraham trying to convince Ichabod to move to the American Colonies. Ichabod knows that Abraham is responsible for the man he has become today. Ichabod knows he must discover who he truly is. Ichabod knows he is being challenged by the man who “shaped his destiny.” We return to the flashback where Abraham is praising Ichabod’s decision to move to America. Katrina also appears in the flashback thus confusing Ichabod even more.
kaHe is unsure of who he is, considering major moments in his life have been influenced by someone else. He claims that is not going to stop him. Abbie remembers the drawing on the plaque that The Horseman took from the wall. Ichabod recognizes the symbol as a snake eating its own tail…a motto used by The Knights Templar. They search underneath the bricks and find a staircase leading underground. Abbie is curious why all these statues were place under here. Ichabod thinks these aren’t statues, but people who have been turned into stone. They flee the tomb quickly as a creature begins chasing them. Abbie is able to shut the door before the creature can escape.
Ichabod recognizes the monster as a gorgon. The gorgon has the power to turn them into stone if they look into its eyes. Abbie is disturbed by what they saw down there, including her ancestor. They realize the odds are stacked against them and they decide they need to get someone without eyes to confront the gorgon. Jenny is waiting on Irving when she receives a voicemail from him. He says thanks for trying and that is not going to hide, but he is going to continue to fight. Katrina looks on as Henry is holding the trumpet of Shofar. When the call of this trumpet is sounded, it means that Moloch is ready for war. Henry also shows Katrina the poison she was going to use on him. Henry says that the end of days is coming.
Ichabod and Abbie are preparing for battle and waiting on The Horseman to arrive. When The Horseman arrives, Abbie and Ichabod lure him into the tomb and hide. The gorgon attacks The Horseman while Ichabod and Abbie sneak into the room where all of the swords are located. Ichabod tells Abbie she must find the sword while he must go fight with The Horseman.
The Horseman decapitates the gorgon and Ichabod covers its moving head. Ichabod can see Abraham’s face, he realizes that the cave shows people in their truest forms and that the prophecy is true. Ichabod challenges Abraham to a deciding match between the two. Their battle is mixed in with flashbacks of their previous duels. The battle is very intense and passionate. Meanwhile, Abbie is trying to figure out which sword is the correct one. She guess wrong and all of the swords turn into snakes. Ichabod comes in and they come to the realization that their might not be a sword at all.
Abraham confronts them inside the room and they tell him the sword doesn't exist. He isn't going to kill Ichabod or Abbie because he hears the Shofar call and knows that Moloch is ready to rise. Abraham knows who he is…The Horseman of Death. Ichabod is unsure of himself, thinking the prophecy might be correct and he can’t see the sword because he doesn’t know who he is.
Ichabod realizes that through Abbie’s eyes he sees who he truly is. They come to the conclusion that only together they can win this war. They find the sword of Methuselah in the well and Ichabod promises that Moloch will not rise. We see Henry standing by with Two Horseman of the Apocalypse while Moloch continues to get stronger.
