'Star Wars Episode VII' trailer may be attached to 'The Hobbit'

The first trailer for Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens is going to send shock waves through the film community. It's one of the biggest and most anticipated films of all time, and fans have been dying to get their hands on even a split second of footage since the movie was announced in 2012. Now, it looks like we might actually see a trailer for the film very soon.

It's still just a rumor, but according to StarWars7News.com, the trailer for The Force Awakens will play in front of The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, which opens on December 17th. If that's true, we are less than a month away from seeing footage from a new Star Wars movie. Let that sink in for a second.

The rumor is based mostly on a tweet from a fan who spoke to Tommy Gormley, first assistant director on The Force Awakens. The user claimed that when asked about the teaser, Gormley told him "You might want to go see The Hobbit." Since the story first broke, not only has this tweet been deleted, the entire account has been deleted.

As Slashfilm points out, it's conceivable that Gormley would know about the film's teaser, as Abrams recently made a video congratulating Gormlmey at an awards show, so it's not as if he's just some guy on the crew. But this is also a rumor based on a tweet from a random guy claiming to have talked to an assistant director, so it isn't exactly rock solid evidence.

Star Wars 7 News did also speak to a local theater manager who said the trailer would appear before The Hobbit, but he admitted they don't get the trailers this far in advance, so it sounds like that's mostly speculation on his part based on his experience.

Still, putting a teaser in front of The Hobbit would make sense, as it's probably going to be one of the biggest movies of the end of this year. It is pretty far in advance, but it's somewhat common lately for films to show a teaser about a year in advance of the movie.

So what will this teaser be like? This week a rumored description of the trailer popped up on Badass Digest. This claims that the teaser will be about a minute long and will feature flashing images of the lead characters while fading in and out of black. The music will swell as a female voice (probably Daisy Ridley) says, "Wake up."

This definitely sounds like an Abrams teaser trailer: short and mysterious, giving us just enough but leaving us with a whole lot of questions. If the rumors are correct, we may be getting a look at the movie very soon, and without a doubt movie geeks will be picking apart every frame of the teaser for months.
