Bono’s rock god classification has seemingly guaranteed his invincibility. During his Wednesday flight to Berlin, the U2 singer’s jet door fell off mid-air. He was reportedly the only member of U2 traveling aboard the Learjet 60. Considering the pilots’ lack of incident knowledge, it was surprising that Bono and his crew walked off injury free.
Germout Freitag, who is a professional for the German Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accident Investigation, told ABC News that “The Learjet lost a door where the luggage was put in.” Officials were extremely confused as to why the door flew off, assuming that it was either due to an incorrectly closing or a rupture.
According to NBC News the only injuries reported were of that to the plane and a loss of two bags of luggage. The pilots, responsible for the flight of Bono to the Berlin Bambi Awards, were only aware of the event after the plane had landed. Considering the fact that that storage is located at the back of the plane and disconnected from the pressurized cabin, there was no noticeable damage when the door was detached.
U2’s arrival at the Bambi Awards was to result in an honoring of their band, complemented by its highly anticipated performance. Once in Germany, lead singer, Bono, who also doubles as a daytime activist, met with the country’s representative for the fight against Ebola.
